 ISLAMABAD—Girls
get ready to revamp your makeup kits and wardrobes - it’s winter time
and You! brings some hot winter trends by professionals in makeup and
styling
What a drag to get out of your warm, snuggly beds and combat the nipping
cold air every morning! But actually in cities like Karachi, winter is
just the perfect season for all kinds of socialising - weddings,
dinners, cosy tea parties and heavens what not.
To help its readers revamp their makeup kits and wardrobes this winter,
You! consults some professionals in the field of fashion and beauty.
They not only discuss winter trends; they also recommend some handy
skincare tips:
Winter trends by Peng:
Makeup: - We seem to be riveting the ‘80s era regarding makeup - the
pinks of ‘80s are fairly ‘in’ these days. In fact make sure this season
your makeup colour palette brims with sparkly warm ‘80s hues. I
recommend a natural look with glossy lips. Lip colours in tones of plum
are also perfect for winter.
Skincare: - Make sure you apply moisturising creams to rejuvenate the
skin. During winter specially, stretched or cracked-up skin fails to
carry well, any kind of makeup.
Hairdo: - This season, I am going to recommend layers and soft curls.
Catching up with Angie Marshal:
Makeup: - The trend seems to be accentuating around ‘contrasts’ and in
winter I would always prefer warm colours - blues, greens, purples for
eyes and glossy shimmering lips. For lip colour this season, I would
recommend shades and tones in red. While doing makeup, make sure you
either accentuate your lips or eyes. In makeup or clothes, a
personalised statement would set you apart so this winter be bold enough
to experiment with your looks - mix and match colours and have fun with
the vibrant lot.
Skincare: - In this season our lips tend to get chapped and cracked so
avoid matte lipsticks and keep a chapstick handy with you. The glossier
your lips this season the better it is. A good quality moisturiser is
necessary especially after scrubbing. Most of us tend to ignore knee
areas, elbows etc. Make sure you apply your body moisturiser thoroughly
every night.
Hairdo: - It all depends largely on your face-cut but this year there
have been some interesting experimentation with layers and steps. Winter
is bound to see some cool hairdos in layers, with shoulder-cut-length
being the most favourite.
Saima’s winter recommendations:
Makeup: - The trend this winter is definitely flowing towards vibrant
colours and personally I would recommend all warm shades - my favourite
being red. ‘Flat’ makeup is ‘out’ and ‘three-dimensional’ makeup is
‘in’. In three-dimensional makeup you get to accentuate prominent
features and also dabble creatively around the ‘low points’ - you work
with shimmer, gloss and there’s a lot of mixing up of hues in eyes and
lip makeup especially. A little shimmer beneath your eyes and between
your blusher area plus highlighting cheekbones also works wonders.
Skincare: - Go for Vitamin E this winter - in creams, body oil, hair oil
or in form of plain supplements. Also in your diet include Vitamin E.
Hairdo: - This year I have experimented a lot with hairstyles. In winter
too, I am going to keep up with that and mix curls with straight hair.
Heavy layers are hot this winter plus a sort of unruly look regarding
hair.
Mubashir’s winter look:
Makeup: - I am going to recommend a natural look - just a bit of mascara
and a glossy lipstick instead of lip-gloss. Warm hues like red and all
bright colours are good for attires but for makeup I go for the natural
look.
Hairdo: - I would go for a cut carrying asymmetrical longer fringes with
long length below shoulder. I would go for well blended layers and as
for highlights, I believe this season highlights would be quite ‘in’. I
would recommend highlights coming from inside - top layers subtle and
the internal ones highlighted. The layers at the top of your head should
be low-lighted.
Some General trends - winter 2004-5
As the season changes, new colours and fabrics set the mood for shorter
days and colder nights. Here are some general new trends for winter:
- For a fresh look, plumb and pink shimmer shadows compliment almost any
skin tone.
- Go for smudgy, smoky eyes accented with blue and green - in lieu of
the basic charcoal gray we are used to seeing.
- Avoid black, but instead try a new burgundy or berry shade or a shade
of brown, bronze, blue, green or silver. In lipstick ‘plum’ works for a
variety of skin tones. Look for soothing ingredients such as lanolin,
petrolatum, aloe vera, jojoba or macadamia nut oil or beeswax on labels.
- Today’s trend is au-natural but there is a lot of definition for the
eyes, lips and cheeks. Common mistakes include poor lighting and not
choosing the proper colors for your skin tone. Avoid shimmer and frosted
make-up if you have some fine lines and wrinkles to hide. Add a hint of
good old-fashioned rouge for a healthy, youthful glow.
- The idea of femininity is taking on a more realistic look, which now
emphasises pretty fabrics and styling, but not overly frilly or a look
reminiscent of the Stepford Wives. |
