WB eyes targeted pledges for reconstruction process

ISLAMABAD—World Bank the other day expressed the hope that Pakistan would get the targeted amount of pledges in the donors conference tomorrow for the relief and reconstruction of the October 8 devastating earthquake.
World Bank Country Director John. W. Wall while talking to APP after inaugurating an exhibition of paintings by Ghulam Mustafa here at the bank’s premises commended the relief operations being carried out by the government and the cooperation of the people for the help of their earthquake stricken brethren.
John W Wall said that Kaghan, Balakot, Bagh, Muzaffarabad and the far flung areas have been badly affected by the earthquake and called for coordinated efforts for the relief and reconstruction of these areas.
He also lauded the donations and relief being extended by various countries and donor agencies in cash and kind for the relief of the earthquake victims.
He also stressed the need for construction and design of new houses by using quality materials with good supervision and strategy so that in future the human and material losses by any quake could be avoided.
The World Bank’s Country Director assured the support of the bank to Pakistan in the country’s relief and reconstruction efforts in the earthquake affected areas. Commenting on the work of the artist, John Wall appreciated the work of the artist for capturing the cultural beauty and landscapes of Pakistan.
The Artist Ghulam Mustafa said that in his paintings he had tried to depict Pakistani culture and its landscapes and used pastel on paper, water colour and oil on board as the medium. He has given his art pieces light colors because “light is life”.—APP
