Donors moot success reflects better foreign policy

ISLAMABAD—Participation of Kofi Anan UN Secretary General and representatives of various countries of the world and Donor Agencies in the "Donors Conference" is a big success of Pakistan which is a result of its better foreign policy, President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abdul Rauf in a statement said.
Abdul Rauf said that this catastrophe had created a huge devastation and spirit, unity and sympathy shown by the Pakistani people towards the earthquake victims represents that our nation could face big challenges.
Abdul Rauf further said that the rehabilitation and reconstruction plan presented by President of Pakistan Gen. Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is workable, whereas they also have announced that a town or city will be named after its pioneers which would be commemorative for the those persons.
He further said that people have shown great enthusiasm for the earthquake victims after 8th October and they should also show same spirit for their rehabilitation.
He emphasized that youth should come forward to participate in the relief activities as volunteers.Meanwhile PML leader Syed Kabir Ali Wasti Saturday termed the International Donors Conference a complete success and praised the donors for extending generous assistance for the earthquake affected people in Azad Kashmir and NWFP.
"The Conference was successful. Presence of donors was satisfactory and we appreciate the pledges," he told APP while commenting on the Donors Conference held here to apprise the participants of the devastation of October 08 earthquake.
He also appreciated the committed support of the United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, President Bush's calling to President General Pervez Musharraf and donations from rest of the world.
"Credit of this success goes to President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. Hats off to them as only they could have made it possible," he said. About transparency of the accounts, he said, there should beno doubts about the transparency of the accounts.
"Army is taking lead in executing the relief work and being a responsible institution they will not leave any embezzlement to take place," he said.
"There cannot be any embezzlement. Commitment of the Government and the Army is above board and the people and the donors rest assured about the transparency," he said.
He also appreciated the people of Pakistan and the world community for their contribution in rescue and relief activities for the earthquake victims in this hour of need. Now they have come up with abundant support for reconstruction that is also commendable," the PML leader said.—APP
