Vast scope for boosting Pak-German ties: Soomro

ISLAMABAD—Chairman Senate MuhammadMian Soomro said that pak german ties have always been very friendly, and that there existed vast scope for improving the ties between the two countries. He held out this remarks during a meeting with an 8-member German team comprising German media representatives, think tanks and intellectuals met Chairman Senate, Mohammedmian Soomro here the other day.
Welcoming the German team, Chairman Senate Mohammedmian Soomro stated that Pakistan-German ties have always been very friendly and that there existed vast scope for improving the ties between the two countries. He said that media can make a very positive and significant contribution in this regard.
He hoped that the present visit of the German media team would go a long way not only in developing greater understanding between the two countries but would also pave the way for boosting Pak-German ties in various sectors.
Chairman Senate pointed out that Germany enjoyed a pivotal position in the comity of nations and that it has been playing its role effectively. General Jamshed Ayaz, Chairman Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) gave a brief introduction of the German team and informed the Chairman Senate that the delegation comprises German mediare presentatives and intellectuals.
The delegation has already visited earthquake hit areas of Balakot and Muzaffarabad to have an on the spot knowledge of the situation after the deadly earthquake hit NWFP and AJK in October last.
He informed the Senate Chairman that the delegation has already got briefings from the Interior Minister, Governor Punjab, Chief Minister NWFP, Relief Commissioner, Information Minister and other senior Federal and Provincial Government functionaries.
He said that he was quite hopeful that the visit of the German team would be productive for Pakistan and Germany.
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs lauded the German Government for its principled and courageous stand on various international issues including Iraq.
He hoped that the visiting journalists during current visit would have a better perspective of Pakistan's policies.
Later, the Senate Chairman hosted a lunch in honour of the German delegation which was attended by Senators Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Tariq Azeem, Muhammad Ali Durrani, Bibi Yasmeen Shah, Ms. Gulshan Saeed, Ms. Roshan Khursheed Bharucha and Begum Tehmina Dasti, MNA.
