NVM’s formulation a timely decision: UNPF

ISLAMABAD—National Volunteer Movement (NVM) and United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) Friday agreed to collaborate and extend cooperation for the rehabilitation of the earthquake victims. Both the organizations would ink a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and a joint work plan in a day or two.
This was announced by Chairman NVM Senator Mohammad Ali Durrani and Country representative of UNPF Doctor Dona France after a detailed meeting held at the NVM headquarters. Both the leaders also agreed to increase collaboration and extend assistance in order to better serve the survivors of the earthquake that wreaked havoc in most parts of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and northern Pakistan.Earlier, Dr. Dona France, accompanied by Dr Shahida Fazil, called on Chairman NVM Mr. Mohammad Ali Durrani at the NVM headquarters. Deputy Chairman NVM Barrister Dr Mohammad Ali Saif, Director General NVM Shoukat Usman and National Coordinator NVM Birg. (R) Yasub Ali Dogar were also present on the occasion. Acclaiming the establishment of NVM, she termed it an appropriate and timely decision. Briefing her on the NVM structure and performance of the NVM, Mr. Durrani told that the NVM aimed at performing as a catalytic role to get all the organizations on board in the mission of serving the survivors of the earthquake. He said that the NVM shall act as a focal point cooperation and coordination between the existing infrastructure to attain better results in this regard.
The chairman further said that besides, the NVM is motivating and mobilizing the volunteers and resources for the rehabilitation of the quake victims. He further said that NVM would also play a pivotal role i n the reconstruction process of the devastated areas. Mr. Durrani informed Dr France that the enthusiastic volunteers are registering them with the NVM in large numbers and the first volunteer group would leave in a few days. He said the registration process would touch its peak as the formal launching is expected in the next week.
Briefing Mr. Durrani, Doctor France told that UNPF has established its base camps in Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Mansehra. She stressed on close coordination between all the organizations working in the respective areas so that they could learn from the experiences of each other. She offered training to girl guides on behalf of her organization.
