Steaming up with gorgeous Yana Gupta
Noreen Aslam

BOMBAY— She has the looks that kill! She has the charisma that people drool over! She is a producer’s delight! She is the irresistible Yana Gupta, who can take your breath away! Yana has carved a niche for herself among the reigning item girl of Bollywood. Swaying with ‘Babuji’ and scintillating with ‘Oh! What a Babe’, she has always set the screen on fire. Yana Gupta tells that it was so far so good. But there is a lot more coming from her!
Excerpts from the Interview:
‘Dum’ and ‘Rakht’ gave you popularity. What’s next?
I appreciate the kind of success and popularity that I’ve got with these films. But let me tell you that what you’ve seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg. There is lot more in store for my fans. In the future you can catch a lot from me. (Gives a naughty smile).
What are your plans?
There is competition, but I have my assets that can steal away the peaceful sleep of many actresses. I’ve not yet done anything such so far. I’ve never tried to look sexy. I’ve never bared myself. I believe there will be no competition around me, if I start showing off.
The trade says, you’re hot and sexy! What is your take?
Well its not all the time I feel that I’m sexy. People like my eyes and say that they’re the sexiest part of me. My fans believe that my eyes are the secret of my popularity. Many items girls come and go. But I stay true for my eyes, which can do more than the hot bods and the sizzling latkas can do. But I don’t believe that my eyes are my sex appeal.
So you’re all set to allure more with your striking item numbers!
I’ve set my foot in the industry with the item numbers. So far I’ve just concentrated on only the songs and dances. People have liked me in that, but now I want to do more. I would prefer doing a role in the film. I think I’ve the potential to act. I would like to try my hands in acting too.
But won’t your anglicized accent be a threat for you as an actress?
I’ve marched my way being an item girl but I want to act now. I know that delivering the dialogues will be a threat for me. I cannot speak much Hindi. Right now I’m taking tuitions to learn the language and I’m sure I’ll be at ease with it sometime from now. I don’t want any shortcomings for myself. Rather I’m raring to go to overcome it.
So good-bye to item numbers?
(Laughs) Actually I need a break from just being an item girl. I don’t want to be tagged with it for the whole of my life. I would like to do it, but I also want something more. I would like to bind my appeal and acting together, to be a successful heroine.
