Donors urged for more aid

ISLAMABAD—The affected people in earthquake areas are in dire need of assistance and donors should extend more assistance enabling them to reconstruct and rehabilitate themselves.
Abdul Qadir, Programme Officer of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), an international NGO, stated this while talking to APP here on Wednesday.
He said the quake caused colossal loss of life and property to the affected people and they deserve more attention and aid for their rehabilitation.
"Though the relief work is in progress but it should be carried out with more coordinated manner for the benefit of the people", he added. He said "This is the time for donors across the world to extend more cooperation and help to mitigate sufferings of the earthquake hit people.
He said a media campaign should be launched with more vigor to attract attention of the world community because the existing relief support is not sufficient.
The miseries of the affected people should beproperly projected to draw the attention of the foreign donors for more assistance, he added.
He said FES is planning to provide vocational training to the jobless people of the affected areas. He appreciated the holding of the Donors Conference by Pakistan and hoped it would help to get more assistance to Pakistan for execution of reconstruction activities in an effective manner.—APP
