Centres set up to mediate business disputes
ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that government has
decided to set up reconciliatory centers to ensure provision of early
and inexpensive justice besides lessening the burden of cases on courts.
He said this while addressing concluding session of a conference held
here Tuesday on “Reconciliation and provision of justice in private
sector”. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry
also spoke on the occasion.
Prime Minister hoped that with the establishment of reconciliatory
centers, early settlement of conflicts through out of court
reconciliation process will be ensured. Jirga and Punjchayt system was
prompted in the past and this process proved very effective for
settlement of feuds.
He held that the government believes in resolution of disputes through
reconciliation. Legislation will be made soon to establish these
centers, he assured. Only one right of appeal in Supreme court will be
given against the decision of reconciliatory center, he told.
This center will be constituted within legal and constitutional
parameters, he said adding this decision has been taken to harmonize the
judicial system in Pakistan with requirements of 21st century.
Government is providing all resources in this connection, he added. The
system is also improving. Steps have been taken in the local government
ordinance to lessen the burden on the courts, he indicated.
He informed that 300 million dollars were being spent to ensure
provision of justice under access to justice program.—Online
