Cuban volunteers engaged in hectic relief efforts
By Uzma Zafar
ISLAMABAD—"Cuban
volunteering teams are busy in hectic relief efforts in Pakistan since
the 8th October earthquake and are in fact, making all out efforts to
rehabilitate the earthquake affectees." These views were stated by
Yainier Morales Ortega and Lyane Casas Perez of the international
contingent from MINSAP; Ministry of Public Health, Cuba, currently in
Capital for relief and rehabilitation of earthquake affectees, during
their visit to The Daily Mail offices, here this Monday.
It is pertinent to mention here that despite the meagre resources that a
developing country like Cuba possesses, it's government has always sent
aid in face of various tragedies across the globe, proving that the
country has a big heart which beats for humanity all over, without any
discrimination and the presence of their volunteer teams in Pakistan
proves the close bonds of Pakistan and Cuba at large.
About their visit, the Spanish-speaking visitors stated casually while
sipping hot coffee that they were here with an international contingent
of around 700 volunteers from Cuba, headed by Henry Meere, since last
Friday, comprising of surgeons, orthopaedics, radiologists, hence all
sorts of medical practitioners carrying x-ray equipment and laboratory
services.
About their relief activities, the friendly doctors stated that they
would leave for the mountains, i.e. the quake-affected areas of AJK in a
couple of days. They expressed that that Pakistanis were a friendly
nation but there was vast cultural diversity as par the language, food
and attire of the two countries. The first time visitors to Pakistan
highly appreciated The Daily Mail's guidance in Cuban relief activities
and it's pragmatic coverage of the relief efforts and high standards of
news coverage at large. |
