Bailey wins UK Designer of the Year Award

PARIS—Christopher
Bailey, creative director of Burberry, has won the coveted Designer of
the Year Award at the British Fashion Awards 2005.
Bailey was among the many leading British fashion names honored at
Thursday’s gala dinner, staged in the Raphael Room of the Victoria &
Albert Museum. Actress Emilia Fox hosted the ceremony, the “ Oscars” of
the British fashion industry. Among the other winners were New Designer
Duro Olowu, presented by Laura Bailey, Menswear Designer Carlo Brandelli,
who received his prize from Will Young.
Charlotte Tilbury, the hot new British beauty specialist, won Fashion
Creator, presented by local lovely Saffron Aldridge. Frenchman Roland
Mouret nabbed the Red Carpet Designer, while Karen Elson picked up Model
of the Year.
John Galliano’s favorite hatter Stephen Jones was presented Accessory
Designer of the Year by model Liberty Ross, and Dover Street Market, the
retail brainchild of Comme des Garcons designer Rei Kawakubo, took home
the Shop of the Year prize. However, the most popular winner was
probably Suzy Menkes, OBE. Alexander McQueen presented the International
Herald Tribune fashion editor with the V&A Award for Outstanding
Achievement in Fashion.
