German Embassy to host HR conference from
15th

ISLAMABAD—German embassy in Pakistan hosting a conference on the issue
of human rights.
German and Pakistani human rights experts willgather for the two-days
conference starting on November15.
Food, shelter, housing, education, an adequate life - some of the most
pressing basic needs areaddressed in the International Covenant on
Economic,Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR). Nevertheless, these human
rights are seemingly still less known andless taken seriously.
The Embassy intends to shed light on the current state of affairs
reference to the ICESCR in this two day conference.
The protection of economic, social and culturalrights can have a deep
impact on a country’s economicand social policies. It also affects
rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts after natural disasters.
The workshop’s speakers include eminent legalscholars and practitioners
such as Prof. Dr. MartinaHaedrich,(University of Jena), UN-Special
RapporteurAsma Jahangir, Agha Shahi (member of the UN-Committe onthe
Elimination of Racial Discrimination), Dr. Anna Wurth (German Institute
for Human Rights), Dr. Khalid Masood, Chairman of the Council of Islamic
Ideology, German Ambassador Dr. Gunter Mulack, Kashmala Tariq MNAand
many others.

Ellen Golz said the workshop would help raising the awareness for
theuniversality and inter-relatedness of all human rights.
German ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Gunter Mulack will present welcome
address on the opening day of the conference on November 15 while the
first session will be chaired by Christoph Sander, Deputy Head of
Mission, of German embassy. |
