NBP Inter-District Football Championship from Nov 15

PESHAWAR—The third edition of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) sponsored NWFP Inter-District Football Championship will commence from November 15, 2005 here at Qayyum Sports Complex Football ground.
This was stated by Zonal Chief of National Bank Shahjehan Khan while addressing a press conference at Zonal Headquarter here Saturday. He was also flanked by the Chairman of Peshawar District Football Association and Secretary Shakirullah Khan. Shahjehan Khan said that 0.25 million has been allocated for the NBP Inter-District Football Championship, which is now annual feature of the football calendar.
While highlighting the financial support in curricular and extra-curricular activities, Shahjehan Khan said that he was proud that the bank has taken unique honour as for as activities of the youngsters are concerned.
He said besides football tournament on annual basis, the bank has been organizing hockey, boxing and other activities for the youth.
“We are looking for land to build a modern and well-equipped Sports Complex in NWFP in order to contribute more in the healthy activities,” soft spoken Shahjehan Khan added.
He said the bank has also decided to organize an All-Pakistan Football Tournament next year in the provincial capital in which leading teams from across the country would take part.
He emphasized that other financial institutes should come forward for their due role in supporting recreational activities for the youth. He informed that the NBP spends Rs. 1 million annually on promotion of sports activities.
The bank has focused its energies on district level to help the potential talent and to provide a platform at the national and international levels.
About the Championship, Fayyaz Ali Shah said that 16 top teams would vie for the top honour. It would be played on knock-out basis with all the teams would be divided in four different groups and one team each will qualify for the semi-finals. Mujahid Club will defend its title, he added.
Fayyaz Ali Shah thanked NBP for sponsoring various sports activities on regular basis. He said currently 25 clubs are affiliated with the association in which top 10 clubs would be selected through a tournament on local basis starting from November 15, 2005.—Online
