Jordanian entrepreneur shows interest for investment in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD—Shaheen Business and Investment Group (SBIG) has expressed
willingness to invest in power generation projects of 1200 MW capacity
which would bring foreign investment of around one billion US $ and
stated that a team comprising SBIG's technical, legal and financial
experts would soon visit Pakistan to discuss the details.
A delegation comprising representatives of SBIG led by Mr. Kealed
Chahien, Group Chairman and CEO and supported by Dr. Jawad Annani,
Special Advisor to the Chairman & Deputy Head for Strategic Planning
Committee, visited Private Power & Infrastructure Board (PPIB) Thursday
to examine the prospects to undertake infrastructure projects in
Pakistan and expressed their interest during the meeting.
The Managing Director PPIB gave a detailed presentation to the
delegation, highlighting various fiscal and financial incentives offered
by the Government Pakistan (GOP) to private investors / entrepreneurs
for establishing private power projects in Pakistan pursuant to GOP's
Policy for Power Generation Projects 2002 (Power Policy 2002).
MD PPIB also highlighted the efforts of the government to develop and
improve an investment friendly environment in the country. He also
informed the delegates regarding the ongoing private power projects
based on multiple fuels, undertaken by various renowned power companies
/ multinational groups under Power Policy 2002.
The SBIG appreciated the efforts of the GOP/PPIB by successfully
attracting private sector investment in Pakistan power sector. MD PPIB
thanked SBIG for showing its confidence over GOP's policies and assured
full cooperation and support on behalf of PPIB / GOP in establishing
private power projects in Pakistan.
