KRCS too extends aid to quake victims
By Adnan Rafique
ISLAMABAD—Through Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), Kuwait, in
comparison to other nations, has taken first place in terms of assisting
Pakistan to deal with the aftermath of last October's earthquake.
In statements to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Wednesday, sources said a
review meeting between Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Chairman
Jahan Dad Khan and representatives of relief organizations concluded
that KRCS comes first when it comes to past, current and future
assistance. KRCS, added the sources, is currently fully supervising a
refugee camp in Islamabad, partially participating in two other camps,
supplying supervised families with two daily meals, providing tents for
families and other necessary supplies, as well as establishing a number
of mobile medical centers.
The sources added that Kuwait was one of the first five nations to
respond to Pakistan's call for help, adding that Kuwait comes first in
refugee relief and presenting actual assistance.
In another development, KRCS supplied Pakistan's Education Ministry with
50 tents to be used as classrooms in one of Islamabad's refugee camps.
In a statement to KUNA, the camp's director, Mazhar Hamid, said classes
at the camp, partially supervised by Kuwait, will commence later on
Wednesday. He explained that the matter of classes and their supplies
was discussed with KRCS who showed full cooperation and willingness to
accomplish this matter. KRCS, he added, was also cooperative to assist
in returning some of the camp's residents to their homes and supplying
disabled persons with wheelchairs.
