Housing Ministry directed to submit revised building codes

ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Tuesday directed the Ministry of
Housing and Works to submit draft revised building codes within a month
to ensure that all future construction comply with safety standards.
The draft codes are being prepared by an experts committee headed by
NESPAK.
Chairing a high level meeting at the PM House, he said government would
not ban construction of multi-storied buildings.
He however asked CDA to improve enforcement of laws and improve
inspection and supervision mechanism to ensure there is no sub standard
construction.
The Prime Minister instructed CDA to improve its system of checking
construction material, building designs etc. The Prime Minister also
instructed the Authority to have professionally sound lawyers to ensure
enforcement of law.
The Prime Minister asked Chairman CDA to have a more interactive policy
and continuously disseminate information to public about buildings,
housing societies, which do not fulfill CDA’s requirements, allowing
public to make correct decisions.
The CDA submitted a proposal for rehabilitation of Katchi Abadi dwellers
in Zone-4. After intensive discussion, it was decided that the plan
would be submitted to the Cabinet.
Minister for Housing and Works Syed Safwanullah, Minister for Interior
Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, Chairman CDA Kamran Lashari and senior
officers of CDA attended the meeting.
