NATO troops only for relief work: Shujaat

LAHORE—President Pakistan Muslim League, Ch. Shujaat Hussain has said that NATO forces is carrying out only relief in Pakistan to help the earthquake affectees. He was talking to journalists after a function arranged for the assistance of calamity-stricken people at Dar-ul-Shafqat here Monday.
Ch Shujaat Hussain said all parties have been contacted for setting up parliamentary party but no reply has been received so far. He said opening of line of control would accelerate relief activities as Kashmiri people would be able to help their families on both sides. While addressing the function, Ch. Shujat Hussain said that “we should help our stricken brethren by setting aside political differences”.
He said that people have displayed a highly commendable spirit of unity for the relief of calamity-hit people and the services rendered by armed forces in this regard are exemplary. He said that “Foreigners were first to arrive in the devastated areas for the relief and rescue of earthquake victims”.
Ch. Shujaat said when he went to Alai two teenage girls of about 18 years were engaged in providing medical assistance to the injured persons. He said when he asked where they were from the girls replied that they were from France. He assured Anjaman-e-Islam that he would try for the return of their institutions.
Chief Justice (R) Nasim Hassan Shah presented a cheque of Rs. one million to Ch. Shujaat Hussain for 16 families under Punjab Chief Minister`s Support-a-family programme, while the employees of Anjuman-e-Himayat-e-Islam announced donation of their one day`s salary. Orphan children of Dar-ul-Shafqat said that the homeless children of affected areas should be sent to Dar-ul-Shafqat and they were ready to share their rooms with them.
Mian Munir Ahmad, in his address of welcome, said that institutions of Anjaman-e-Himayat Islam should be returned to the organization. He also demanded that Yatim Khana Chowk should be widened or an underpass should be constructed for the benefit of children. The function was also addressed by Chief Justice (R) Nasim Hussain Shah, Yousaf Salahudin, Hamid Meraj, Bushara Rehman while Justice Retd. Javed Iqbal, Justice Manzoor Hussain Sial, Provincial Minister for Social Welfare, Nasim Lodhi, Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister, Saba Sadiq, Member National Assembly Mehnaz Rafi and Perveen Sikandar Gill MPA were also present on this occasion.
