Registration of volunteers to start after Eid: Durrani

ISLAMABAD—The registration process of volunteers for the earthquake hit
areas, would be initiated within a few days, State Minister for Sports,
Culture and Youth Affairs Muhammad Ali Durrani said.
The services of international volunteers were being hired for providing
training to the these volunteers from across the country, he told
newsmen.
Under the National Volunteer Programme (NVP) each volunteer would be
required to serve at least for 30 days in a quake zone. However, the
time span could be decreased or increased depending on availability of
the volunteer, he remarked.
Female volunteers would be deployed in the education and health sectors,
he said.
Complete database of NVP campaign would be maintained. Proper grouping
of the volunteers would be done for making the relief activities result
oriented.
Trauma centres would also be set up to help normalise the lives of the
quake survivors.
A separate cell would be established in NVP for acknowledging and
rewarding the services of each and every volunteer. And they would be
treated as a distinguished and respectable citizen of the country, he
said.
NVP was aimed at supplementing the relief activities of Pakistan Army.
The volunteers would be deployed alongwith Army units busy in quake hit
areas.
Coordinated support of volunteers was needed till complete
rehabilitation of the quake affectees, he concluded. |
