Gas supply to Gudu Power Station restored

SUKKUR—Gas supply to Gudu Thermal Power Station was restored on Wednesday night after the engineers of Gudu and Mari Gas Company repaired the gas supply pipe between gate No.20 and 22 that had burst allegedly as a result of subversive activity by unknown people on Wednesday night.
Earlier gas supply from Mari Gas well to Gudu Power Station was suspended around 1000 PM Wednesday when the news of gas pipeline damage reached Mari Gas office, Daharki, as most of the gas well staff had gone for lsha prayers.
Field Manager Javed Akhtar Jadoon who had just reached Daharki from Karachi, personally dashed to gas well 10 kilometres away and shut the gas supply to avoid further loss.
Field Manager Jadoon told APP that the security of gas pipeline within Gudu Barrage area was the responsibility of Gudu Thermal Power Station administration and Mari Gas had no concern with it at all. Besides, he said, gas supply as a precaution was also cut off for Tallo Company, Daharki.
He said on the request of Gudu Thermal Power Plant Chief Engineer, he had sent a team of Mari Gas engineers and experts to help them in rejoining and repairing the damaged part of pipeline of gates 20 and 21.
Chief Engineer Gudu Power Plant, Jamil Akhtar Arain while talking to APP from Gudu said the pipeline had burst due to alleged subversion by unknown saboteurs and it would be probed by police and security agencies.
He said Joining Team of Gudu Plant and Mari Gas were able to repair the damaged pipeline within 24 hours, after which the supply had been restored.
He said the power plant was run on other gas supply system also which is connected with Sui Northern Gas Pipeline (SNGPL) and PPL from their Kandhkot wells. He indicated that security of pipeline as well as the power plant wil be enganced now as a first priority, to avoid recurrence of such mishaps.
According to Chief Engineer Gudu, partial suspension of gas supply to his plant did not make much difference as supply system from other wells of PPL and SNGPL was utilised to run the plant turbines, which ultimately ensured uniterrurpted power supply to a vast area of Sindh, Balochistan and Southern Punjab.—APP
