SUKKUR—Gas supply to Gudu Thermal Power Station was restored on
Wednesday night after the engineers of Gudu and Mari Gas Company
repaired the gas supply pipe between gate No.20 and 22 that had burst
allegedly as a result of subversive activity by unknown people on
Wednesday night.
Earlier gas supply from Mari Gas well to Gudu Power Station was
suspended around 1000 PM Wednesday when the news of gas pipeline damage
reached Mari Gas office, Daharki, as most of the gas well staff had gone
for lsha prayers.
Field Manager Javed Akhtar Jadoon who had just reached Daharki from
Karachi, personally dashed to gas well 10 kilometres away and shut the
gas supply to avoid further loss.
Field Manager Jadoon told APP that the security of gas pipeline within
Gudu Barrage area was the responsibility of Gudu Thermal Power Station
administration and Mari Gas had no concern with it at all. Besides, he
said, gas supply as a precaution was also cut off for Tallo Company,
Daharki.
He said on the request of Gudu Thermal Power Plant Chief Engineer, he
had sent a team of Mari Gas engineers and experts to help them in
rejoining and repairing the damaged part of pipeline of gates 20 and 21.

agencies.
He said Joining Team of Gudu Plant and Mari Gas were able to repair the
damaged pipeline within 24 hours, after which the supply had been
restored.
He said the power plant was run on other gas supply system also which is
connected with Sui Northern Gas Pipeline (SNGPL) and PPL from their
Kandhkot wells. He indicated that security of pipeline as well as the
power plant wil be enganced now as a first priority, to avoid recurrence
of such mishaps.
According to Chief Engineer Gudu, partial suspension of gas supply to
his plant did not make much difference as supply system from other wells
of PPL and SNGPL was utilised to run the plant turbines, which
ultimately ensured uniterrurpted power supply to a vast area of Sindh,
Balochistan and Southern Punjab.—APP |
