PIA Chief orders probe into fire incident

KARACHI—Chairman PIA, Tariq Kirmani has ordered an inquiry into the fire incident at the airline’s Flight Operations Building which erupted on Wednesday.
The Chairman has appointed inquiry committee headed by Chief Pilot Safety PIA Captain Dara and General Manager Security Colonel Moin Rauf to ascertain the cause of fire.
The fire, which erupted on Wednesday evening, was extinguished after two hours.
Fire tenders of PIA, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and City District Government Karachi (CDGK) rushed to the building and extinguished the fire.
The PIA management thanked the CAA and CDGK for sending their fire tenders.
A fire broke out in the Flight Operation Building of PIA located at the Old Terminal No. 1 here Wednesday.
According to Deputy Chief Fire Officer of City District Government Karachi, Muhammad Naeem Yousuf, the fire started on the second floor of the ground-plus- two building.
There were about 100 offices on the floor but only 15 were affected by the fire which was controlled and put out by nine p.m. He said no one was injured in the blaze. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately but short-circuit may be the reason. Naeem Yousuf said five fire tenders of the City District Government Karachi along with two of Civil Aviation Authority and one of PIA fought the blaze and extinguished the fire. He stated that CDGK fire tenders were called at 6.58 p.m.
