Relief assistance pouring in from abroad

ISLAMABAD—International community on Wednesday sent more aid for the
quake affectees and several cargo aircrafts carrying relief goods landed
at Chaklala Airbase.
Material of NATO field hospital is being shifted to the affected areas
for setting up hospital to provide treatment to quake surviors. NATO has
also sent two aircrafts carrying medicines and material for rescue work.
Besides, NATO had already sent five cargo aircrafts carrying relief
goods for the affectees of NWFP and AJK. One field hospital, medical
equipment and medicines have already reached Pakistan which were also
sent by NATO.
Germany has sent ambulances and medicines for the affected people. China
has sent a doctors team besides medical equipment while Kuwait has sent
full size 150 tents to be utilized in the affected areas for setting up
field schools and mobile hospitals.
On the appeal of United Nations tents are coming to Pakistan from
various countries in large number. However according to concerned
officials more tents and other materials including blankets are needed
due to approaching cold weather.
The relief assistance coming from international community is being
dispatched to the affected areas by road and helicopters from Chaklala
Airbase.
A cargo aircraft carrying relief goods donated by the Government of
Thailand will reach here on Thursday. Thailand Ambassador Pisanu
Chanvitan would handed over the consignment of relief goods to the
concerned authorities.
Pakistan Army has dispatched more than 7000 tons relief goods from
Chaklala Airbase to the affected areas. While nine relief camps have
been set up by Pak army in Muzaffarabad.
Humanitarian assistance personnel of various countries are engaged in
providing assistance to the quake-victims.
Besides Pakistan Army, workers of concerned government departments are
also contributing in the relief activities.
Several field hospitals have also been set up by various countries in
affected areas where doctors and para-medical staff are providing
treatment to those who received injuries in the severe earthquake.
Pakistan Army on Wednesday shifted several serious patients from
quake-hit areas through helicopters. The helicopters which were used for
shifting these patients included MI-17, Chinook, Black Hawk, CH-53 and
Sea King.
Helicopters of Pakistan army also dropped relief goods in the
inaccessible areas today. |
