China hails
LoC opening to help quake victims
BEIJING—China Tuesday welcomed opening of five points across the Line of
Control in Kashmir and hoped that it would facilitate the relief and
reconstruction operation in the earthquake affected areas.
"We appreciate this decision, taken by the governments of Pakistan and
India through mutual consultation, said a spokesman of the Chinese
Foreign Ministry Kong Quan here at the weekly news briefing.
China believes that such a measure will also help to promote mutual
trust and cooperation between the two neighbouring countries, he added.
To another question, the spokesman highlighted the massive support being
given by the Chinese side for carrying out relief and rehabilitation
task in the disaster-hit cities and villages. China, he added is
committed to ensure regular supply of humanitarian assistance to the
affected people.
In this connection, he said the government of China is working out a
comprehensive plan to provide prompt and effective support to the quake
victims. Several batches of relief consignments will be dispatched to
Pakistan this month.
The Chinese leadership and the government are seriously concerned over
the worst disaster that hit Pakistan on Oct. 8 he added.—APP |
