Pak Badminton players reach quarters in India

LAHORE—Pakistani Badminton players put up their best performance in an international tournament by advancing into quarter-finals in five events in Indian Asian Satellite held in New Delhi.
Pakistani doubles pair Tahir Ishaq and Mohammad Waqas Ahmed reached the quarter final by defeating Indian pair of Gill Tanveer and Somi Joseph 15-11, 15-7 in the pre-quarterfinal, said the information provided by Pakistan Badminton Federation here Monday.
Amer Islam and Imran Mobib defeated Thopa Bdran and Mehta India of Nepal 15-5, 15-4. They defeated Sri Lankan pair of Kamntnne Dilnho and Fernendo Erange 16-6, 15-5. In the quarter final they lost to the second seed Indian pair Jameel P Ismail and V Dijn 6-15, 15-17 giving good fight to them in the second set.
In the ladies doubles Ayesh Akram and Sara Momand lost to the top seed pair of Sri Lanka Jaya Singhe and Ariyadase 15-7, 15-8 in the quarter-finals. Asma Butt and Uzma Butt also reached the quarter final but lost to the second seed Malaysian pair Wong Julie Xian and Norshahliz 15-6, 15-7.

In the mixed double Tahir Ishaq and Sara Momand defeated Sri Lanka pair Fernando and Ariyadasa 17-14, 15-6 in the pre quarter-final. In Men Singles young Zafar Tasneem beat Kherbeda Hima of India 15-10, 15-9.
Umar Zeeshan reached the pre-quarter-final stage by defeating Tripathy Pretap of India 15-10, 15-11. He defeated Bajaj Rajiv of India in the second round 15-8, 15-9. In the pre quarterfinal, he lost to Iranian National champion Golam Raza in a three set encounter 15-12, 6-15 and 5-15. It may be mentioned here that Ghulam Raza reached the semi-final of Men’s Singles.—APP
