Schiavone reaches Hasselt Final

HASSELT (Belgium)—Francesca Schiavone beat 16-year-old Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 Saturday to reach the final of the Gaz de France Stars.
The third-seeded Italian will meet the winner of the other semifinal between top-seeded Kim Clijsters of Belgium and Dinara Safina of Russia. Clijsters, the US Open champion, has won eight WTA Tour events this season.
The 68th-ranked Krajicek looked to be heading toward another upset win when she broke Schiavone to take the first set. On Friday, Krajicek ousted second-seeded Nathalie Dechy of France in the quarterfinals.
But Krajicek was increasingly troubled in the second set by a strained left thigh and had to play with it heavily taped.—Agencies
