Lindsay’s
independent streak
Joal Ryan
NEW
YORK—Lindsay Lohan is taking a detour from fender-benders, not to
mention Disney movies. The traffic-challenged Herbie: Fully Loaded star
will seek to make a mark as an indie actor in a low-budget Emilio
Estevez drama about the day Senator Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated.
Lohan’s casting was first reported in Thursday’s Hollywood Reporter.
An ensemble piece set in Los Angeles in 1968, Bobby also features
Anthony Hopkins, Demi Moore, Sharon Stone, Elijah Wood and Estevez.
Hopkins doubles as an executive producer; Estevez triples as the writer,
director and producer. Lohan will play the unintended love interest of
Wood, according to the Reporter. “Lindsay, who you do not think of as an
indie film actress, is an inspired choice and is the heart of the
movie,” Bobby producer Edward Bass said in the trade paper.
“I think everyone looks for that role where it’s a stretch, and you can
be kind of a bit edgier and push the envelope a little bit,” Lohan told
Film Monthly in June. On screen, Lohan is best known for her kid and
teen roles in several Disney movies, from The Parent Trap to Herbie.
