Russia sends five flights of relief goods for quake victims

ISLAMABAD—In response to the Pakistan's request for international assistance to overcome the country's worst earthquake, the Russian Federation responded instantly and is continuously sending humanitarian relief for the Pakistani People.
The devastating disaster that claimed thousands of precious human lives here, has deeply shocked the Russian people, who have reacted quickly and with an open heart to help Pakistan in its hour of need. Russia is amongst the very first countries, which provided emergency assistance to the friendly Pakistani people.
First relief flight from Moscow landed at the PAF airbase Chaklala on October 9 and it brought 35 rescuers and two doctors with four specially trained snuffing dogs, four specialized rescue vehicles and a lot of up-dated rescue equipment.
This team was deployed in Muzaffarabad till October 15 and participated in rescue operations in different areas of the city and its outskirts together with other international rescue groups.
Second relief flight arrived on October 10 with 31 tons of humanitarian aid on board: 110 winter reinforced tents, each accommodating up to 30 persons, 304 quilts, 250 mattresses, 253 pillows and 400 camp beds.
Third relief flight arrived on October 11 and brought 53 specialists-37 rescuers, 16 doctors and medical staff (including surgeons, anesthesiologists, pediatricians and paramedics). A most modern and uniquely equipped Mobile 50 bed hospital with operation theatre to provide immediate health care at the spot to the earthquake victims was airlifted from Moscow by the same flight. It was also stationed in Muzaffarabad.
The Russian doctors team provided medical assistance for almost 1500 people (including 560 children, performed 497 complicated surgeries and provided intensive care treatment for 70 affectees (including 31 children) in field conditions. A 4-member team of Russian doctors arrived on October 25 and they replaced the Russian medical staff at the PIMS Children Hospital, Islamabad, they are performing treatment and various surgeries for affected children and they will be working there for two weeks more.
