CDA asks private schools to get building safety certificates
By Ali Imran

ISLAMABAD—The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has advised the sponsors of all private schools operating in the Islamabad region to get their buildings inspected for any earthquake damage.
The inspection will be done by any of the consultants and structural engineers who are on the approved list of the Pakistan Engineering Council, a CDA official said. “A building or structure can be by the school sponsors only after furnishing a safety certificate to the CDA," he said.
The CDA has prepared a list of 33 consultants and engineers in consultation with the Pakistan Engineering Council, he said, adding that the two teams set up earlier by the Authority could not inspect all the buildings where cracks appeared after the October 8 earthquake.
