Govt, Opposition in touch over quake APC
ISLAMABAD—Government and Opposition have finally started consultations
for convening an All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) to mull the
prospects of speeding up the relief and rehabilitation activities in
quake-hit areas.
However, no opposition group has assured the government to attend
President’s APC.
On the other hand Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal has urged the government to
speed up relief and rehabilitation process in quake-hit areas before the
onset of winter. The religious amalgamation also suggested that instead
of Ministerial Committee for monitoring relief and rehabilitation
process government should constitute a Parliamentary Committee for this
purpose.
The committee should also comprise of opposition lawmakers as well, it
suggested.
When Online contacted Makhdoom Amin Fahim to get his point of view over
President’s APC, he said government has not extended an invitation to
them so far. When we will get the invitation we will decide about it.
All political parties will be consulted before final decision over the
matter, he noted. Pakistan Muslim League (N) chairman Raja Zafarul Haq
when asked by said scribe, he said Chaudhry Shujaat had asked us to
attend APC, however I told him that the final decision on whether to
attend APC or not will be taken after mutual consultations between ARD
and MMA leadership. Hafiz Hussain Ahmed told Online we are fighting with
time, winter is closing very fast and government instead of wasting time
on photo sessions and hollow claims should provide relief to quake-
affectees.
People are only scoring political points instead of helping the affected
people. If government was really determined to convene APC then it
should have been called before National Security Council meeting, as it
could have allowed all political leaders to think over it. But now we
will discuss this matter with ARD and other political groups and decide
over it. Government, he said should inform us about the APC agenda, he
underscored.—Online
