Annual elections of SCBA to be held on 31st: SC

ISLAMABAD—A three-member bench of the Supreme Court Thursday said that
annual elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) will be
held on October 31 under the supervision of the present body of the
Association headed by Qazi Muhammad Jamil and there would be no role of
Pakistan Bar Council in the elections.
Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi and Justice
Mian Shakirullah Jan heard the viewpoints of both parties, SCBA and the
Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and disposed of the petition as petitioner
and respondents reached to a compromise regarding elections of the
Association.
Qazi Muhammad Jamil and Secretary of the Association, Ch.Abdul Sadiq
appeared before the court on behalf of SCBA.
Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council, Hamid
Khan and Malik Rub Nawaz Noon represented the PBC.
The Bench directed Qazi Muhammad Jamil who is also presidentn of the
Supreme Court Bar Association to hold annual meeting of the General Body
of the Association on October 29.
Both the parties agreed on the compromising formula and gave consent to
the Court with request to dispose of the case after issuing a directive
according to the compromise. The bench disposed of the petition by
accepting the request made by both the parties Supreme Court Bar
Association and Pakistan Bar Council.
Talking to mediamen after the hearing of the case, President SCBA, Qazi
Muhammad Jamil said, "We approached the court of law for the
independence of the SCBA and thanks to Allah Almighty the independence
of the Association remained intact due to the decision of the Supreme
Court."
Regarding meeting of the General Body of the Association, Qazi said that
the meeting of the General Body would be held on October 29 in the
Karachi Hall of the Lahore Bar Association at 3.30 p.m according to the
directive of the Apex Court.
When asked about the forthcoming elections, he said that elections would
be held on October 31 as per directive given by the Supreme Court
because all arrangements including entire process of the election have
already been completed by the Association.
Commenting on the directive/decision of the Supreme Court, he said, "We
appreciate the role of the bench and entire lawyers community will
remain united by this decision."
This directive will bar the interference of the Pakistan Bar Council in
the affairs of the Supreme Court Bar Association once for all, Qazi
Muhammad Jamil said. |
