I want a man in my life: Shamita
Noreen Aslam

BOMBAY—They say that it is much easier for artistes with film background to make it big in filmdom. But it’s not all true, as comparisons are bound to come their way. Actress Shamita Shetty is one such heroine, trying hard to come out of her big sister Shilpa Shetty’s shadows. She has at last found a niche for herself with films like ‘Fareb’ and ‘Zeher’. Now, she is a free bird ready to mingle if a suitable person comes her way. Here is a short talk with the sexy actress.
Excerpts from the Interview:
Tell us something about the projects you are doing at present.
I am not doing any film at present and haven’t signed any. I am taking a break after getting so much of accolades for my films ‘Fareb’ and ‘Zeher’. I am very particular about the kind of films I want to do and I will definitely not sign all the offers that come my way. I would love to do more performance-oriented films.
Do you mean to say that you will stop doing item numbers?
I don’t rule out anything totally. But why should not I do if a big offer like ‘Sharara’ comes my way? You know, a good item number is as good as a film role.
They say ‘sex sells’. Do you agree?
Sorry, I won’t agree with it. Actually, it is the role and script that really matters and not sex.
Would you fit the bill in films like ‘Julie’ and ‘Murder’?
I had my own share of sexy films. I have played a seductress in ‘Fareb’. So, I have carried such sexy roles very well.
Is it true that you are looking for Mr. Right?
To tell you the truth, I am not desperate for love, though I am single at present. I will think about relationship if a suitable person comes my way. Yes, I want a man in my life.
Could you tell us on the qualities your Mr. Right should have?
My kind of man should be honest, calm and matured. He should not be hot tempered like me.
Do you agree with the view of the critics that you should do more skin shows to get more publicity?
I definitely don’t agree with them. Having had my share of exposure to earn success, I think I should not become the slave of skin shows. This doesn’t mean that I am completely against exposure. In fact, I would still prefer to do such films if the role really demands it. But I will not cross the limits and keep myself away from anything that is vulgar.
