NA body concerned over illegal occupation of library plot

ISLAMABAD—Standing Committee on Education has expressed its serious concern on the illegal occupation of the plot reserved for extension of children’s library at Islamabad.
The Committee met under the chairmanship of Begum Tehmina Dasti, MNA in parliament house Wednesday morning. Director General Department of libraries briefed the committee about the scope of activities of the department.
He informed that the department of libraries was established to deal with the matters related to libraries heritage. He further informed the committee that the department significantly contributed in collection and preservation of National literacy heritage, providing advisory services to children and compilation of publication of Pakistan National biography.
Committee asked the ministry of education to take up the issue of vacation of plot with Capital Development Authority (CDA), at earliest. Later, committee was briefed about the working of Federal Board of Intermediate and Seco0ndary Education (FBISE) and inter-board committee of chairman.
Committee appreciated the performance of both departments however, directed to ministry of education that Pakistan studies should only be taught up to matriculation. Committee also asked the chairman FBISE to assist other regional boards of intermediate and secondary education in strengthening their system of examination and marking of papers.
Committee also appreciated the establishment of regional offices inter-board committee chairman, which facilitated people in gutting their equivalence certificate from their nearest office.
The meeting was attended by Lt. Gen. (Retd) Ashraf Jhangir Qazi, Federal Minister for education, MNAs Begum Zeb Gohar Ayub, Mohammad Akhtar Khan Kanju, Prof. Asiya Azeem, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Prof. Khalid Wahab, Aisha Munawar and Maulana Amanullah Khan.
