Sonia blames probe team of harassment
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD—Sonia Naz has voiced strong protest over her physical search
conducted on the occasion of her appearance before the 3-member
committee constituted under the directives of the Supreme Court of
Pakistan to probe into case and demanded for initiation of action
against two members of the committee including SP Capt Abid Qadri and
Capt Usman Khattak. Sonia Naz after appearance before the committee told
the journalists “I appeared before 3-member committee led by DIG Aslam
Tareen on Monday. First of all my mobile and tape recorder were snatched
from me. Later two members of committee called two lady constables who
took me to bath room located close to committee room and subjected me to
physical search.
Giving details of the search move, she said that these lady constables
put up vulgar and insulting questions. They striped me of my dupatta and
veil. I protested against this inhuman treatment before the committee
making it clear that I am not accused that I am being meted out inhuman
and callous treatment.
“On my request Chief Justice has formulated this committee and it is I
who is being harassed”, she told. I am being pressurized that I should
withdraw the case against police officers Khalid Abdullah and Jamshaid
Chisht, she added. She appealed to the Chief Justice to take suo motto
notice of her physical search after stripping her of dupatta and veil.
It may be recalled that earlier three inquiries were held but Sonia was
not searched physically in such way. Moreover Civil Judge court has
acquitted Sonia Naz with honour in national assembly entry case.
National assembly speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain had directed deputy
commissioner to take back the case.
Civil Judge Saleem Rana acquitted Sonia Naz from NA entry case after
hearing the arguments of her counsel Tariq Jahangiri. Presenting the
arguments in the court, Tariq Jahangiri said Sonia had entered into
national assembly hoping to seek justice. She held a visitors pass
issued by an MNA. She had entered into national assembly hall along with
women law makers for sheer ignorance. Sonia Naz had displayed
conspicuously the visiting card as well. Despite this fact, the security
guard did not guide her. And she entered into hall barely for her
ignorance, he pleaded. |
