NCHD to set up tent villages for quake
victims
MANSEHRA—The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) will
establish three tent villages in Mansehra, among which 500 families will
be provided shelter, food, clean drinking water and other necessities of
life.
The District General Manager of NCHD, Riaz Hassan Khan said that all the
500 families would be provided shelter, single foam mattresses,
blankets, food and other necessities of life including clean drinking
water, sewerage etc. Talking to media persons he said that these tent
villages will be established at Ghazi Kot town ship, Devli Jabbar and
Balakot.
Riaz said that the first tent village at Ghazi Kot Township has already
been established while the remaining two are in final stages. With the
establishment of the three tent villages in Mansehra, the quake victims
will be facilitated there, Riaz added.
Explaining the tents installed at these tent villages, Riaz said that
some of the tents are big enough to easily accommodate 25 persons, while
some of the tents are smaller. “The families are accommodated according
to their size in these tents. In some cases, the male and female of the
same families will have to stay separate, in order to accommodate more
and more sufferers”, Riaz Hassan Khan observed.
About the ongoing rescue operation for the earthquake affectees, Riaz
said that being a core partner of the rescue operation in the area, the
NCHD is making hectic efforts to rehabilitate the people on priority
basis.
He said that so far hundreds of blankets, warm clothes, ‘Kafan clothes’,
dry milk, dates, biscuits, water and medicine have been provided to the
sufferers of the earthquake, which hit Mansehra and other adjoining
districts some two weeks ago. Most of these items have been provided by
various agencies and the NCHD is ensuring that the relief items may be
provided to the needy and deserving sufferers.
Explaining the role of volunteers involved in the rescue operation, Riaz
Hassan Khan said that hundreds of NCHD volunteers are helping the
affected people in vacating their damaged houses and are searching for
the dead, injured and alive victims. They are also identifying the real
sufferers and try to ensure that the relief items may be provided to the
deserving people, he maintained.—INP |
