More tent villages set up for quake victims: ISPR

PESHAWAR—More tent villages have been set up in the quake-hit areas of NWFP due to influx of displaced persons who continue to descend from the hamlets of far-flung mountainous regions, that experienced a widespread devastation, says an ISPR press release here Saturday. Around 10,000 survivors have been accommodated in 29 tent village of Garhi Habib Ullah, Shinkiari, Batgram and Balakot sectors and are provided with free meal and medicines.
Military and civil police have been deployed at the entry and exit points for the protection of these villages. The tent villages have been established at Kashtra, Jabori Kalasracha, Taran, Neelbat, Kerri, Bela, Dheg, Johcha, Dadar, Kund, Sacha Kalan, Munda Ghucha, Jabar, Deoli, Batgram, Shamlai, Balakot, Asian, Hassa, Shawal, Bahli, Bhanphhora, Garlat, Gadarabad, Bhajuri, Sarash and Rin.
Army has also established a reception centre at Kohlian near Balakot where registration of the victims is being carried out. The victims are given shelter, food and medical assistance.
A Turkish firm ‘Light House’ has arrived in Pakistan and would establish two tent villages in the affected areas.
For provision of safe drinking water to the victims, army engineers have arranged eight water tanks at various places at Balakot.
The tanks which have the capacity of 200 gallons water will be filled from the various water points established by Army Engineers at Shawal.
A convoy of 15 trucks carrying 12712 blankets, 10 tonns ration, and eight tonns other relief goods arrived at Abbottabad while another convoy of 89 truck loaded with supplies was sent to Garhi Habibullah, Shinkiari, Chatter and Balakot.
Troops took 46680 kilograms of supplies to 37 remote villages of Balakot, Shinkiari, Garhi Habibullah and Batgram sectors. Mules of Animal Regiment were utilized to transport 5210 kg of relief goods to Bastangra, Kalis, Barida, Satbani, Sarighar and Ghanool.
Aviation helicopters did 19 sorties from Chaklala Air Base to the affected areas of NWFP and airlifted 315 tents, 6790 blankets, 8.818 tons of ration, 0.042 tons of medicines and two tonns of other relief goods.
Twenty eight more sorties were made by Army aviation helicopters from Mansehra and which dropped 24 tonns of relief goods in Balakot, Allai Valley, Kawai, Paras, Shinkiari, Malakandi, Jared ,Kaghan, Kala Dhaka, Naran, Jabori, Garhi Habibullah, Manda Gucha, Batgram and Nawazabad.—PR
