Data of unattended quake-affected children being collected: Zubaida

ISLAMABAD—Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education, Zubaida Jalal has said that data is being collected to know the account of unattended quake-affected children for their rehabilitation under government's supervision.
"Our National Commission for Child Welfare and Development with the help of UNESCO and Azad Kashmir government is making an assessment in current tent cities," Zubaida said.
She said the assessment is being made about the number of affected children and the nature of help they need.
Schools are destroyed due to earthquake and it is being examined as how classes can be arranged immediately.
She said some incidents alerted the government not to allow the individuals to adopt these children.
It may take the parents a long time to find their children even after rehabilitation, she added.
She said, about 1,000 children were admitted in Pakistan Institute of Medical Science Islamabad (PIMS) and only 39 out of them were unattended, adding, they are kept in a special ward under security.
To a question she said the government wants to educate the unattended quake-affected children in the same way as normal children are being educated.
