Thousands of quake-affected kids feared to become abnormal
ISLAMABAD—Executive Director and Chief Moscow Children Clinical Research
Institute of Emergency Surgery and Trauma Centre, Prof Lowinda M Rochel
has said that quake-affected children in Pakistan are suffering from
mental disorder and physical disability owing to lack psychiatrists and
plastic surgery experts in the country.
Addressing a press briefing here the other day, Mr Rochel expressed fear
that thousands of Pakistani children will become abnormal and disabled
if government do not establish separate hospitals and start special
program for the treatment of quake-affected children. He observed that
quake-affected children's limbs are being amputated in PIMS, Polyclinic
and other hospitals of Rawalpindi because of the lack of plastic surgery
experts.
On the other hand, Pakistan do not have psychiatrists for the proper
treatment of affected children due to which they are suffering from
mental disorders, Russian Prof maintained. He said about 800 children
have been admitted in different hospitals who are in dire need of
psychiatry treatment and plastic surgery.
Mr Rochel asked Pakistan government to immediately set up separate
hospital and make arrangements for psychiatrists and plastic surgeons in
it for the treatment of quake-hit children.
He said he also held meetings with Health Minister Nasir Khan and other
concerned personalities in this regard and put suggestion for initiating
program for the treatment of quake-stricken children.—APP |
