Masses enraged over Margalla Towers' collapse episode
By Uzma Zafar

ISLAMABAD—As an impact of the powerful earthquake that rocked the country with strong jolts, damage to no other building of the Capital was done that the collapse of Margallah Towers which was constructed with certain substandard material, a fact that was revealed at a time when the danger was already over the head. As the tears are trying, rage is building up within the hearts of the masses against the concerned authorities for such a manmade disaster.
Where the Margalla Towers Residents' Society has filed a case against CDA, The Daily Mail, thus thought it timely to conduct a survey amongst masses of various viewpoints, asking them whether they were satisfied over the ongoing development in overall case and probe in this regard, or not!

The word is that the person to whom Margalla Towers was sold to and who was, thus, handling over the project of it's construction, was an influential army man. If that's true, then I doubt that the masses would get justice. In Dr. Shazia case too, in Baluchistan, the culprit was saved under army cover. In this case too, there was hype in media for only 2-3 days and the fact was highlighted that it was faulty construction that led to Margalla Towers' destruction. If this remains the scenario and the accused remain influential individuals, I don't think that the matter would be let to proceed further.

Yes, I am satisfied with the situation. PM has ordered probe into the scenario and I feel that provided the culprits be brought to book, such an incident would not happen again.

It's very good and I am very glad that the case has been taken up by the Supreme Court. The destruction of around 150 newly built flats is not anything funny. It is a sheer case of carelessness and substandard construction. The word is that there were cracks in the building since it was made. Well, in that case, the flats should not have handed over to the residents in the first place. This should be checked for other buildings in the future. But in all this scenario, what's the odd thing to note is that all the manmade surfaces in AJK and other areas of the country collapsed that were made and owned by the government. This smells ugly!

Since the Margalla Towers' collapse, many facts have emerged swiftly through the media. One thing has but become painfully clear. If the CDA for instance clears lodges as safe, well, the clearance would still not be trustable. Like a patient gets a second opinion, thus experts should be consulted and reconsulted for checking the Capital's various buildings for cracks so that such an ugly tragedy could be averted in the future and lives be saved, accordingly.

Of course I am not satisfied with the case proceedings. The authorities have taken action too late. I think everyone would agree that the issue has raised serious concerns about the material used all over, in the government buildings. Then, now we know that the government does not have enough material to help so many people. Had the fact of ill construction surfaced before, precious lives could've been saved.
