700 aftershocks recorded, says Met Office

ISLAMABAD—Chief Meteorologist Anjum Bari on Tuesday said about 700 aftershocks have been recorded so far after the major earthquake on October 8. Speaking in PTV programme, he said intensity of aftershocks was decreasing with the passage of time. He said magnitude of the aftershocks was recorded 2 to 5 on Richter scale, while some of the shocks were only noticed by specific instruments and could not be felt by the people. Bari said intensity of over 40 aftershocks were more then 5 which had also been felt in many areas including Islamabad. To a question he said such a type of aftershocks was expected as normal after the major earthquake. Low intensity aftershocks could continue for one year, and high magnitude shocks will be felt for three to four weeks.
