Chairman Senate terms recent earthquake as human tragedy

ISLAMABAD—Chairman Senate, Mohammedmian Soomro said here Tuesday that
October 8 Earthquake was a human tragedy of immense proportion and the
entire Pakistani nation was engaged in providing relief to the victims
of this disaster.
He made this observation while talking to Wolfgang J.Ruttenslorfer,
Chief Executive Officer and chairman of the Executive Board of OMV (AKTIEN
GESELL SCHAFT) who called on him and complimented the Government and the
people of Pakistan for relief and rehabilitation activities in the
earthquake hit areas. He said that as an international company involved
in exploration and production of Oil & Gas in Pakistan, OMV is
contributing US$ 500,000 to the President’s Relief Fund for Earthquake
Victims to alleviate the sufferings of the needy families.
Shahid Iqbal, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary Qasim International
Container Terminal and Yasir Jawed, Director Marketing MIS Pakistan
Lubricants (Pvt) Ltd. also called on the Chairman Senate, Mohammedmian
Soomro separately in the Parliament House here today and presented
cheques amounting to Rs,.3.1657 million and Rs. 1 million each to the
President’s Relief Fund for Earthquake Victims.
Chairman Senate, Mohammedmian Soomro said that the nation has to
experience a worst natural disaster and it was a happy augury that the
Pakistani nation was responding to the situation with zeal and resolve
to help the victims of the corporate sector for sharing the agony of
their brothers and sisters, who have fallen prey to the earthquake that
hit most parts of the country.
A four-member delegation of Kuwait joint Relief Committee headed by
Mishal Suleman Al-Saeed had a meeting with Chairman Senate Mohammadmian
Soomro and expressed its sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the
deadly earthquake.
Chairman Senate briefed them about the releif activities being carried
out in the quake hit areas of NWFP and AJK. During the meeting, the
Kwaiti team expressed its willingness to donate for the development of
infrastructure in the quake hit areas and provide blankets, medicines
and other necessities of lie to the victims of the earthquake.
Earlier Asad Umar, Chief Executive of Engro Associated Company called on
the Chairman Senate in his Chamber this morning and informed him that
his company has donated Rs. 20 million to the President’s Releif Fund
for earthquake victims whereas the employees of the company have also
contributed towards the said fund. |
