Michel Klein: From runway to scent to singing
Godfrey Deeny

Paris—It’s been a busy season for Michel Klein, who staged a catwalk show, launched his debut scent and held a memorable soiree in Paris to celebrate all of the above. The designer’s debut fragrance with L’Oreal, Cher Michel Klein, features Puerto Rican beauty Astrid Munoz in a Juliette Greco meets Monica Vitti moment, shot in a black and white ad campaign by Peter Lindbergh.
Klein opened and closed his spring summer 2006 collection runway show in the Hotel Intercontinental with Munoz, whose self-confidant élan was a lesson to the other young models in the show. The collection captured both Klein’s many strengths, and odd weaknesses.
One can see why Michel remains a favorite of major league buyers, the guy cuts for a real woman’s body in a highly flattering manner. His, admittedly too long, selection of little black dresses, were mini tutorials in how to create clothes that work in social and professional situations with a certain aplomb.
Moreover, Michel’s sense of detailing, his Egyptian references, Nubian lady looks, sense of how to use silver and gold and clever self-editing are all great.
