Ljubicic beats Ferrero to win BA-CA trophy

VIENNA (Austria)—Ivan Ljubicic won his second straight title Sunday, beating Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (5) in the BA-CA Trophy final. Ljubicic, who had 20 aces, won last week in Metz, France. The 26-year-old Croatian won his fourth career title, capturing two in 2004.
“My matches were short and since I did not drop a set in the entire event, I could give my body time to relax,” Ljubicic said. “That was one of the keys in the final”. Using a serve-and-volley approach, Ljubicic broke Ferrero early and took a 5-2 lead. “I had a great start into the match and taking the first set so quickly gave me confidence,” he said.
Both players stayed on serve in the second set until Ljubicic broke the Spaniard late before closing out the set.
