CPC launches campaign to help Pak quake victims

BEIJING—Communist Party of China (CPC) launched a campaign through private sector to provide emergency aid to the quake-victims in Pakistan.
First consignment of 90 tons relief goods was handed over to Pakistan ambassador Salman Bashir by a senior leader of the Communist Party of China Hu Deping at a ceremony held Sunday at the Beijing airport.
The consignment including tents and blankets will be airlifted to Pakistan on Tuesday. It was arranged in cooperation with Red Cross Society of China, Beijing-based UN development programme and Air China Cargo.
The campaign to collect donations has been stepped up all over China on the directives of China’s top leadership. The donations are coming up from State-owned and the private companies, besides individuals.
The Ambassador told APP that total Chinese assistance up till now has crossed the limit of $12 million. The Chinese government and the private sector have pledged more aid for the relief and rehabilitation work, he added.
Cargo flights carrying relief goods will be flown to Pakistan on almost daily basis, according to the needs of the affected people. Five special flights with relief goods have already arrived in Pakistan. In addition to $ 6.2 million official grant, substantial contribution has been made by the Chinese Defence Ministry, China’s Red Cross, and Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with foreign countries and China North Industries Corporation.
The donations were also being made by the Pakistanis, residing in various parts of China. China’s State leader Tang Tiaxuan during his visit to Pakistan Embassy assured that Chinese government and the people will fully stand with their Pakistani friends, in their hour of great shock and distress.
Anther Chinese leader of the Communist Party of China Liu Yandog also assured all-out support to Pakistan to overcome the present difficult time.
