Quake death toll crosses 39,000

ISLAMABAD—Federal Relief Commissioner (FRC), Maj. Gen. Farooq Ahmed Khan Sunday said that death toll has touched the figure of 39422 in the ferocious earthquake including 14000 in NWFP. Briefing newsmen here, he said 65000 persons were injured, adding rescue work in the affected areas was in full swing. Army was doing its utmost to take relief goods to remote areas in rough terrain. Govt bans adoption of quake orphans

ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Sunday said the government would take care of all the children injured in the devastating earthquake and no one would be allowed to adopt any child. Talking to newsmen after visiting Federal Government Services Hospital and National Institute of Special Education here in the federal capital, the Prime Minister said there are 1000 injured children in different hospitals here.
