I have nothing to say: Ganguly

KOLKATA—Sourav Ganguly Friday refused to comment on his exclusion from the 15-member Indian cricket team for the first two one-day internationals against Sri Lanka this month, with a curt ‘I have nothing to say’.
The beleaguered cricketer told media persons camping before his house in south Kolkata: ‘Don’t wait in the sun for a reaction. I have nothing to say’.
The former captain, called the Prince of Kolkata, looked crestfallen during his practice session in the morning.
None from the Ganguly family spoke to the media Friday. No one responded to the phone calls made at his house.
Meanwhile, emotionally charged Kolkata residents reacted with anger and sorrow at what they said was the ‘shoddy treatment’ meted out to Ganguly — one of the most successful Indian captains.
Some considered it a well-hatched conspiracy.
‘Even by statistics he is far ahead of others. This is a well-planned move to finish him off as a cricketer,’ said a fan who hopes Ganguly would make a comeback because of his fighting spirit.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary S.K. Nair announced in Mohali Friday the squad that would play Sri Lanka at Nagpur Oct 25 and at Mohali Oct 28.
Rahul Dravid was named captain of the Indian cricket team Thursday for the seven-match one-day international series against Sri Lanka, followed by five One-Dayers against South Africa.
Ganguly could not take part in the Challenger Trophy Oct 10-13 in Mohali because of a tennis elbow injury. He was injured while in Zimbabwe.—Agencies
