Advisory Committee of Senators to supervise relief operations
Senate Relief Cell dispatches 600 tents to affected areas

ISLAMABAD—Chairman Senate, Mr. Mohammedmian Soomro has constituted an 8 member Advisory Committee of the Senators to supervise and advise the management and administration engaged in relief operations. Senator Mrs. Tahira Latif has been designated as Coordinator of the Advisory Committee. Dr. Shahzad Waseem, Minister of State for Interior and Senators Professor Khursheed Ahmed, Bibi Yasmm Shah, Farhatullah Khan Babar, Hamidullah Jan Afridi, Mrs. Razina Alam Khan, Ayaz Khan Mandokhail are members of the Advisory Committee. The Senate Relief Cell last night dispatched 600 tents to various parts of NWFP and AJK as a part of its relief operations. The Cell dispatched tents to Bagh, Balakot, Mansehra, Rawalakot, Abbotabad, Batagram, Ughi, Muzaffarabad, Kheran, Kotli, Malka, Surmandel, Dhok Sheda, Dong, Mohra and Konali. These tents have been sent by Overseas Pakistanis residing in UK, USA and Dubai through a chartered flight. Besides the above, the Cell sent 25 trucks loaded with blankets, pillows, medicines, atta, pulses, sugar, rice, cooking oil etc. to the worst affected and far flung areas of AJK and NWFP during the last 24 hours. The Cell, in coordination with the local philanthropists, intends to set up a tentage village in Azad Kashmir.
Chairman Senate, Mr. Mohammedmian Soomro, who is personally supervising the relief activities of Senate Relief Cell, has appreciated the gesture of the overseas Pakistanis for providing the relief goods for distribution among the affectees of the national calamity. He hoped that other philanthropists Pakistanis would follow suit and make generous contribution towards the relief fund.
Meanwhile, the Overseas Pakistanis residing in USA, UK and Dubai have evinced
keen interest in the relief activities and have collected donations for the earthquake victims.
They plan to send 12 thousand blankets and nearly 2000 tents for the earthquake victims in chartered flights on regular basis. The Senate Relief Cell has been intimated that these items will be handed over to the Cell for dispatch to the earthquake affected areas in NWFP and in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The first flight carrying blankets and tents arrived here last night from Dubai. Senators and public representatives are keenly and actively participating in these efforts. Blood donation campaign has also started. Chairman Senate, Mr. Mohammedmian Soomro initiated the campaign by donating blood the other day.
