Jamie Foxx, Beyonce, Murphy’s to recreate Supremes’ music
LOS
ANGELES—Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx, musical sensation Beyonce Knowles and
funnyman Eddie Murphy are to star in a movie tracking the rise of Diana
Ross and the Supremes to the top of the music world in the 1960s.
Paramount Pictures has signed director Bill Condon to direct the movie
version of the Broadway show “DreamGirls,” the entertainment industry
bible Daily Variety said Wednesday.
The movie, based on a book by Tom Eyen and using the lyrics and music of
Eyen and Henry Krieger, tells the story of the early years of Motown
Records diva Ross and her two fellow Supremes. Condon, 49, who wrote the
Oscar-winning 2002 musical “Chicago,” which reignited the musical genre
in Hollywood, is also writing the script for “Dreamgirls.”
Condon also directed last year’s Oscar nominated “Kinsey” and 1998’s
“Gods and Monsters.” Foxx won the best actor this year for his
interpretation of soul genius Ray Charles in “Ray,” while Knowles is the
Grammy-winning former frontwoman of the group Destiny.—Agencies |
