False earthquake rumors panic twin cities residents

ISLAMABAD—The twin cities were in a state of panic and fright after false rumors of earthquake around 12:00 pm noon on Thursday.
According to details, false rumors of possible earthquake in twin cities prompted people to come out of their houses and offices uttering Kalma Tayaba and Allah O 'Akbar on top of their voices.
Schools and most of the offices of twin cities were closed after the rumor.
Employees working in Blue Area came out of their respective plazas and were seen in fright and panic in Jinnah Avenue and Fazal-e-Haq road.
Traders and shopkeepers came out of their shops in Jinnah Super Market, Super Market, Aabpara, Melody, Karachi Company G-9 Markaz and others to safe themselves from the possible earthquake while some of them went to their respective families to give them support. On the other hand, employees of all the ministries present in Pak-Secretariat left their work and sat on the grounds of secretariat that resulted in delay of government work for quite a long time.
On the said issue regarding rumors spreading of possible earthquake, Duty Officer Meteorological Department and Deputy Director Muhammad Saeed when contacted told Online that these are baseless rumors and people must not panic as the entire nation is already under a lot of trauma emphasizing to remain calm in their houses.
"It is an attempt of anti social elements to further traumatize the nation and they must not listen to it", he stressed. He further told Online that we cannot predict the time, however aftershocks will continue for few days with a low magnitude whereas no major damage is said to be on the cards after 8th October earthquake that was one of the worst in the history of Pakistan.—Online
