Ebad provides all choppers for relief operations

KARACHI—Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan Wednesday directed that all helicopters present in the province should be immediately sent out for relief operations in the earthquake hit areas of the country. He issued the directive while chairing a high level meeting held at Governor House in which transportation of relief goods to quake affected people was reviewed.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, principal Secretary Mohammed Saleemm Khan, DG Rangers, Sindh, Maj Gen Javed Zia, Relief Commissioner Syed Anwar Hyder, IG Sindh Asad Jjehangir, DCO Fazlur Rehman and other officials. The Governor directed that priorities be determined for sennding relief goods. He said medicines, blankets etc should be speedily transported by air while less priority items be sent through railway.
It was informed that a cargo special train consisting of 60 wagons with relief goods left Cantonment sttation Wednesdday morning and another left at 3 p.m. Governor Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan asked the donors to transport only priority relief goods to PAF Faisal Base and rest be sent to City Government’s notified camps.
He said the goods being sent b trucks shhould be properly covered with plastic covers in view of possible rains. On the occasion it was informed that Sindh Government had so far sennt 6000 blankets, one thousand tents, 500 shamianas and 55 small tents besides 10,000 packets containing dates, baked grams biscuits etc.
The Governor appealed to people to meet the target of “one house one blanket”. He appreciated the spirit of people of Karachi and entire Sindh and assured that their donations will reach the hands of genuine affectees. It was decided to send another 10,000 blankets, medicines worth Rs 4 million, 5000 burial cloth and 5 tons of biscuits.
It informed that a team of 28 doctors and surgeons led by Secrretary Health are carrying out medical relief in afffected areas while 65 truck loads of relief goods have been sent by Sindh Police. It was informed that Rs 20 million as one day salary of Sindh Government employees has been donatted towards Prresident’s Relief Fund. On the occasion Fateha was offered for departed souls and early recovery of injured.
