Chinese Defence Ministry donates $100,000 to affectees

ISLAMABAD—China’s Ministry of Defense has donated US dollar 100,000 in
cash in emergency humanitarian aid to Pakistan for the rescue operations
and reconstruction efforts in the aftermath of the disaster.
This is in addition to $6.2 million emergency aid already announced by
the Chinese government. A senior Chinese official told newsmen here
Tuesday that the Chinese government and the people are prepared to offer
more aid to help their Pakistani friends, in hour of their trial and
tribulation.
All the relevant departments have been advised to extend all possible
assistance to the earthquake’s victims on emergency basis.
Chinese top leadership President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao are
personally taking care of the relief support, that need to be provided
to Pakistan on urgent basis. Special aircraft will be taking relief
goods to Pakistan almost on daily basis during the next few days.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held special meeting with Pakistan’s
ambassador Salman Bashir on Monday to know latest developments,
following the massive earthquake.
Wen said the disaster has touched the hearts of the Chinese people. “We
are willing to provide all possible assistance for the disaster relief
and reconstruction efforts in Pakistan,” he added.
China sent its second batch of relief materials to earthquake-hit areas
in Pakistan Monday. A total of 1 million US dollars in cash has already
been remitted to Pakistan.
“Being the time-tested and all-weather friend, China stands by their
Pakistani friends at this present difficult time,” said Chinese Vice
commerce minister Wei Jian Guo in a statement issued here. He said,
Pakistan is our great friend and very close neighbour. “We consider the
tragedy faced by the people of Pakistan as our own tragedy.” China Cross
