Japanese relief goods for earthquake victims arrive in Capital

ISLAMABAD—Pursuant to Government of Japan's decision to extend emergency assistance to the Government of Pakistan for the relief of the people suffering from the devastation caused by an earthquake, a planeload of relief goods arrived today at the Islamabad International airport.
Japan's assistance worth 25 million yen (approx. US$ 238,000) consists of 30 tents (each accommodating 6 people), 2000 blankets, 20 water filters, 20 electric generators, 20 rolls of electric wire, 768 handy water tanks, 500 sleeping mats, 20 rolls of plastic sheet and 5 large water tanks (35,000 liters capacity). These relief goods were formally handed over by His Excellency Mr. Nobuaki Tanaka, Ambassador of Japan to Mr. Ishtiak Ahmad Khan, Additional Secretary of Cabinet Division.
A "Japanese Disaster Relief Team" was dispatched earlier comprising of 49 rescue operation specialists and 21 medical experts to help rescue and provide medical care to the earthquake-affected casualties in the major. disaster prone areas.
Japanese support symbolizes the sentiments and goodwill of the people and government of Japan towards the Pakistani people. The decision to provide support has been made especially from an humanitarian point of view and in consideration of the friendly relations between Japan and Pakistan.
