China ready to offer
more aid

BEIJING—Chinese government is in touch with the
Pakistani authority ascertaining further
requirements to help mitigating the suffering of
the earthquake’s victims.
This was stated by a spokesman of the Chinese
Foreign Ministry Kong Quan here Tuesday at a
weekly news briefing. Expressing deep sense of
shock on behalf of the government and the people
of China, he said, we are prepared to help the
victims.
China promptly responded to the emergency needs
of the people, who suffered in wake of the
severe earthquake, by sending a rescue and
relief team on Sunday. All the preparation to
dispatch the team was completed within seven
hours after receiving the call from the
Pakistani side, he added.
China dispatched its third batch of relief
materials to earthquake-hit areas in Pakistan
Tuesday afternoon from Shijiazhuang, capital of
north China’s Hebei
Province.
The transport aircraft, loaded with such relief
materials and commodities as power generators,
tents, food, medicine and medical equipment
worthy $3 million was scheduled to arrive in
Pakistan later Tuesday night.
The first two batches of relief materials had
been sent to Pakistan from Beijing on Sunday
noon and Monday afternoon, respectively.
Meanwhile, Chinese Ministry of Defense has
donated US dollar 100,000 in cash in emergency
humanitarian aid to Pakistan for the rescue
operations and reconstruction efforts in the
aftermath of the disaster. China North
Industries Corporation has also announced a
donation of $300,000 to assist in relief
operation. This was in addition to $ 6.2 million
emergency aid already announced by the Chinese
government. A senior Chinese official told APP
that the Chinese government and the people are
prepared to offer more aid to help their
Pakistani friends, in hour of their trial and
tribulation. All the relevant departments have
been advised to help the earthquake’s victims.
Chinese top leadership President Hu Jintao and
Premier Wen Jiabao are personally taking care of
the relief support, that need to be provided to
Pakistan on urgent basis. Special aircraft will
be taking relief goods to Pakistan on regular
basis during the next few days. Chinese Premier
Wen Jiabao held special meeting with Pakistan’s
Ambassador Salman Bashir on Monday to know
latest developments, following the massive
earthquake. Wen said the disaster has touched
the hearts of the Chinese people. We are willing
to provide all possible assistance for the
disaster relief and reconstruction efforts in
Pakistan.
